Welcome to Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility – operated by Encyclis

Rookery South ERF is a state-of-the-art facility that processes around 550,000 tonnes of residual waste every year – reducing landfill, generating enough baseload electricity to power 112,500 homes and recovering valuable resources and by-products for reuse.

Occupying a former clay extraction pit near Stewartby, Bedfordshire, the energy recovery facility began operating in January 2022.

What is Energy-from Waste?

Recovering resources to support the circular economy

Energy-from-waste supports the circular economy by giving a second life to household and commercial waste that remains after separation for recycling. In the process of treating waste, we generate baseload electricity, create hot water for district heat networks, supply ash that can be turned into building materials and enable extraction of ferrous and non-ferrous metals for reuse.
