Hazardous-waste shredding requires more than high torque and reliable size reduction. A system installed by Italian manufacturer SatrindTech illustrates how material handling, vapour extraction, dust suppression and fire protection can be integrated around a hydraulically driven twin-shaft shredder for demanding industrial waste streams.
Material is loaded into the hopper by grapple crane and discharged into a wheeled metal container beneath the machine. This layout supports continuous feeding while limiting direct operator exposure. The shredder itself produces a more consistent particle size, preparing difficult waste for downstream treatment, transport or recovery operations.

An extraction connection draws volatile substances from the shredding chamber into an air-filtration system. Fine water mist suppresses hazardous dust, reducing airborne particulate exposure and helping keep the working area cleaner. These controls are particularly relevant for installations handling mixed or poorly characterised materials and for sites operating under ATEX requirements.
Fire protection covers both the hopper and the discharge point. Flame or spark sensors can trigger spray nozzles before an ignition develops into a larger incident. The design shows why hazardous-waste equipment should be assessed as a complete process rather than as a standalone shredder: feed control, containment, detection and suppression determine whether throughput can be maintained without compromising worker or plant safety.
