v18Using the sun’s energy instead of grid power, SolarBee® water circulators minimize aeration equipment run-time in wastewater and industrial water reservoirs, which significantly reduces energy costs and helps provide a fast payback. SolarBee solar-powered circulators can supply most of the mixing energy required in virtually any type of treatment pond, reducing the hours that the aeration system must operate. Thorough mixing helps improve regulatory compliance by reducing biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), ammonia, odors and sludge buildup.

Because the circulators use “green” solar power and reduce consumption of grid power, municipalities are eligible for green initiatives such as utility rebates and infrastructure improvement funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The solar-powered, floating circulators operate day and night with a low-voltage motor and on-board battery system for continuous, energy-efficient water quality improvement. SolarBee circulation technology creates a near-laminar flow pattern that completely mixes the water column and improves distribution of dissolved oxygen. Each solar-powered SolarBee unit requires about 36 watts to operate, but can displace the mixing energy of about 25,000 watts (30 horsepower) of conventional grid-connected mixing equipment in wastewater treatment ponds and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 148 tons per year.
