WTEI Joins Madagascar’s ValoDéchets Initiative to Launch Pyrolysis Project
Waste to Energy International (WTEI) is proud to announce its involvement in an ambitious waste-to-fuel project in Madagascar, supported by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) under the leadership of His Excellency Minister Max Andonirina Fontaine. The project, known as ValoDéchets, aims to process 36,000 tonnes of household waste and plastic per year through a pyrolysis system, ultimately converting the resulting synthetic fuel into a reliable energy source for the local fishing fleet.

From Partner’s Letter Regarding ValoDéchets
“This year marks the launch of ValoDéchets, an initiative supported by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) of Madagascar. This project aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a mission to:
- Promote health and well-being by mitigating the impact of waste on communities (SDG 3)
- Advance the transition to clean and affordable energy (SDG 7)
- Create decent jobs and foster inclusive economic growth (SDG 8)
- Champion innovation and sustainable infrastructure (SDG 9)
- And combat climate change through the adoption of resilient solutions (SDG 13)
With the steadfast support of the MEDD, we are confident that your collaboration and innovative contributions will be instrumental to the success of ValoDéchets and the shared vision of a sustainable future. Together, we can turn environmental challenges into opportunities that create lasting impact.”
WTEI’s Role and Next Steps
WTEI has already conducted an initial project assessment, crafted a financial model, and provided preliminary consulting with recommendations for moving the project forward. In January, WTEI’s partners will hold meetings in Madagascar with MEDD and ValoDéchets to finalize the feasibility study and establish clear milestones for project implementation. WTEI representatives will also participate in discussions with government agencies, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing sustainable waste management solutions.
With continued support from local authorities and partners, WTEI remains optimistic that the ValoDéchets initiative will play a transformative role in driving progress on key SDGs and improving livelihoods across Madagascar.
