Joint Development Work on the Tunisia Waste-to-Energy Opportunity
Waste to Energy International (WTEI) and Kanadevia Inova are working together to develop and evaluate a potential municipal solid waste-to-energy opportunity in Tunisia. The cooperation brings together WTEI’s development work and Kanadevia Inova’s global experience. This covers Waste-to-X technology, engineering, construction, and plant operation.
The current phase is exploratory. It is focused on clarifying the technical, commercial, and institutional basis of the opportunity before any formal project roles or commitments are agreed.
Building on WTEI’s Engagement in Tunisia
The work follows WTEI’s continuing engagement with Tunisian institutions. In March 2025, a WTEI-led consortium presented its waste-to-energy proposals to the Minister of Environment and an inter-ministerial committee in Tunis. The discussions covered potential facilities serving Greater Tunis and Sfax, together with the concession and public-private partnership framework required to advance them. Since that meeting, WTEI has continued to develop the institutional, technical and financial basis of the opportunity and to engage potential international delivery partners.
Combining Development and Delivery Experience
Kanadevia Inova is a global green-tech company specializing in Waste-to-X and renewable gas systems. Its capabilities span project development, technology supply, engineering, procurement and construction, as well as long-term plant services and operations. The company reports more than 3,500 employees in 17 countries and over 2,000 projects delivered worldwide.
Working discussions between WTEI and Kanadevia Inova have focused on the development approach for Tunisia, the technical and commercial conditions needed for a bankable project, and the information required to assess possible delivery structures. The parties also intend to coordinate the agenda for future engagement with the relevant Tunisian stakeholders.
A Structured, Evidence-Based Next Phase
The immediate priority is to develop a clearer understanding of Tunisia’s waste-to-energy plans, regulatory environment, market conditions, and implementation timetable. Direct discussions with the relevant governmental entities are expected to help test the project assumptions and refine its structure.
At this stage, the cooperation represents joint work to develop and evaluate the opportunity. It does not yet constitute a final EPC appointment, investment commitment or consortium agreement. Any such role would remain subject to further project definition, technical and commercial due diligence, and future formal agreements.
Next Steps
WTEI and Kanadevia Inova will continue their working-level dialogue and prepare the next phase of stakeholder engagement. The objective is to establish a credible path from early-stage development to a technically sound, financeable waste-to-energy project. The project aimed to support Tunisia’s transition away from landfill and towards controlled resource recovery.
