BMW DesignworksUSA has unveiled their new i solar carport concept.
Designed for use with the i3 and i8, the solar carport is eco-friendly as it features renewable bamboo wood supports, carbon fiber side elements and “high-grade glass-on-glass solar modules” which generate electricity.
Power flows through a BMW i Wallbox Pro system that shows the amount of solar energy that goes into the car and provides an analysis of the charging processes. If the sun isn’t doing you any favors, the charger can access the electrical grid to ensure the car is recharged and ready to go.
According to project leader Tom Allemann, “With the solar carport concept we opted for a holistic approach: not only is the vehicle itself sustainable, but so is its energy supply. This is therefore an entirely new generation of carports that allows energy to be produced in a simple and transparent way.”
