Lindner Launches Diesel-Powered Mobile Shredder

Lindner Recyclingtech has introduced a diesel-powered version of its Merak 2800 mobile shredder for recycling sites without dependable grid access. The Merak 2800 DT debuted at IFAT Munich 2026, extending a platform launched two years earlier as an all-electric machine.

The diesel-hydraulic drive removes the need for an external transformer or separate generator, allowing the machine to begin work after refuelling. Lindner says the main engineering challenge was maintaining the high rotor speed under changing loads. Its drive and transmission concept is designed to minimise speed drops and preserve the throughput of the electric model.

Three interchangeable rotor configurations and multiple screen options cover waste wood, plastics, commercial and industrial waste, and household waste. Output sizes range from about 30 to 350 millimetres, enabling coarse pre-processing or finer single-pass size reduction. A folding conveyor has been added to simplify transport and setup between temporary or remote sites.

Diesel power increases mobility but also brings fuel use, emissions and maintenance trade-offs compared with a grid-connected electric machine. Its strongest case is therefore operational flexibility where electrical infrastructure is absent, undersized or temporary. For contractors serving several locations, the ability to deploy one turnkey shredder without site power equipment may outweigh the efficiency advantages of a fixed electric installation.
