Veolia Raises €2.5 Billion in Record Bond Issuance

Veolia opened 2026 with its largest-ever bond placement, raising €2.5 billion across three maturities. The environmental-services group issued a five-year €950 million tranche with a 3.209% coupon, an eight-year €900 million tranche at 3.639%, and a twelve-year €650 million tranche at 4.052%.

Investor demand was substantially larger than the offering. Veolia received more than 570 orders, with the book peaking at €10.5 billion. That oversubscription allowed the company to price the bonds with new-issue concessions ranging from minus two to five basis points compared with the secondary market, indicating strong demand across the maturity curve.

The transaction is corporate financing rather than a project-specific green bond, but access to long-dated capital is strategically important for a company investing across water, waste and energy infrastructure. Veolia linked the market response to confidence in its financial position, international growth outlook and GreenUp strategy, including its planned expansion in hazardous-waste services through the announced Clean Earth acquisition in the United States.

Veolia’s operating scale gives context to the financing. In 2024, the group supplied drinking water to 111 million people, provided sanitation services to 98 million, produced 42 million MWh of energy and treated 65 million tonnes of waste. The bond issue strengthens the company’s ability to fund a capital-intensive portfolio while spreading refinancing needs over five, eight and twelve years.
