WTEI Opens Financing Dialogue for Its Ethiopia Project
Waste to Energy International (WTEI) has entered discussions with SDGroup Asia and members of its project-finance network concerning potential debt and equity financing for WTEI’s waste-to-energy project in Ethiopia.
An initial project-finance meeting took place on December 10, 2025. The discussion focused on the project’s current status, investment criteria, possible financing structures, and the information required for a confidential review. SDGroup Asia outlined its approach to arranging capital for large-scale renewable-energy and waste-to-energy projects through its international network.
A Project at an Advanced Development Stage
The Ethiopia initiative has progressed beyond the early concept stage. Development work has included technical and financial feasibility assessment, waste characterization, site-related arrangements, and engagement on the institutional and commercial framework required for implementation.
This groundwork allows the financing dialogue to focus on bankability, risk allocation, capital structure, and the documentation that prospective funders would need before making an investment decision.
Structured Review Before Any Commitment
Following the initial meeting, the parties are organizing the next steps for a confidential exchange and review of project information. WTEI is evaluating whether the available financing parameters are aligned with the project’s requirements and stage of development.
The discussions are preliminary and remain subject to confidentiality arrangements, detailed due diligence, agreement on a suitable financing structure, and further technical and commercial review. They do not constitute a financing commitment.
Next Steps
WTEI will continue the dialogue with SDGroup Asia and relevant capital providers. The objective is to establish a credible route to finance while preserving the project’s technical integrity, appropriate allocation of risk, and long-term operational viability.
